What Causes Recurrent Fever After A Radical Cystectomy?

Dear Doctor, My father had a radical cysto a month ago. The surgeon said he sailed through it but for the past 2 weeks he s been having fevers spike daily from 99 to 102. There is slight puss discharge from his incision wound. The fever tends to get worse at night. The doctors are being very passive and won t give us much info other than to go to the ER if he feels he needs to. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Fever associated with pus from the wound after surgery may suggest infection. It is important that he gets a check and if the doctors think an infection is happening in the wound area, he will need antibiotics and careful monitoring to make sure he is healing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
