What Causes Recurrent Grand Mal Seizures?

Dr. I have a friend who in the last two years has been having grand mal seizures. The Drs. thought at one time he may have had a small stroke (undetermined). Just in the last month his personality has gone through a drastic change and after 45 years with his wife Nancy he s become violent to the point where he s now been arrested. Nancy didn t want Gene (husband) taken to jail but wanted him taken into one of our better hospitals thinking it had to do with his mental state not a health problem. Since going into jail the drs that examined him will give Nancy no information because her husband now says he doesn t know who she is he thinks she s his sister. I can t understand why these Drs. don t realize that what she s telling them is not just the truth but his health both mental and physical are deteriorating hour by hour. This problem is just going to get worse and the outcome could be fatal. Because Nancy and Gene are people who have learning disabilities and low IQs Nancy s outlook has been one of fear and now she is feeling alone and guilty. What Dr. should we call what tests should we ask for. The prisoners really get the best care and if I can help them I will. I ve been explaining things to Drs. lawyers, hospitals, even their children at times most of the time the explanation to start is for them. I ve gotten quite good at this and I m proud to help. Thank you Regina Love, YYYY@YYYY

Hello! Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

First of all, just confirm it was a stroke or a seizure by doing a CT scan to rule out any brain dysfunction.
And generally the violent behavior you spoke about is a kind of psychiatric disorder and it needs a behavioral therapy.
But you also mentioned his condition is deteriorating so I would suggest a brain imaging to be done first and then we can look at the CNS examination of the patient.

Hope this clarifies your concerns. Thank you for the query.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Jinela Desouza, General & Family Physician
