What Causes Recurrent Hard Knot At The Base Of The Skull?

I have a hard knot in my suboccital area the size of a Lima bean, no painful. I had the same thing in the same area that was excised over 20 years ago and it was benign. Had to undergo surgery in operating room under general anesthesia. Since it is a recurrence do I need to go through all of this again? How likely is recurrence? I go to a chiro and have my neck worked on a lot. Benign then. Probably benign now?

Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that it is very likely that this is a recurrence.

For this reason, I would not recommend surgery again.

Anyway, a physical exam by your doctor would help examine it better.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
