What Causes Recurrent Hives Despite Taking Methylprednisolone?
My daughter who has had a sinus infection for several days went to her MD Thursday for hives and was given a prescription for Methylprednisolone 4mg to be taken in tapering daily doses. She was directed to take 6- 4mg. tabs at once on Thursday given she saw the MD at the end of the day. Yesterday her skin cleared up. But today the hives returned far worse. She went to Urgent Care today and the MD gave her a prescription for Prednisone. My questions: 1: Couldn t the Methylprednisolone have triggered an increase in the hives and 2: Since Prednisone must first be metabolized to its active form methyprednisolone what is to rationale for prescribing Prednisone.
