What Causes Recurrent Itchy Rashes On The Body After An Appendix Surgery?
I have had a problem with a recurring skin rash that started nine years ago shortly after my appendix ruptured and was removed along with part of my intestine and colon. I am curious what it could be. I don t use perfumes or lotions (except cortizone 10 which only helps a little). I shower with water only and use laundry detergent free of dyes and perfumes. It started on my scalp and spread to my back, stomach, arms and legs, but my scalp, neck and stomach and elbows are constantly broken out and very itchy. The only time it went away completely was when I was pregnant. It starts out as an itch that turns into red welts and then scabs. Do you have any idea what this could be or what may have caused it?
Hi. As per your case history you are having allergic dermatitis. My treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. You can go for endo allergy test to find the list of possible allergens. 3. Apply a mild topical steroid cream like mometasone cream on affected skin twice daily. 4. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for itching. 5. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid, dapsone taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
