What Causes Recurrent Low Blood Pressure?

Hi, I am 67 years of age and female. General health excellent but a couple of years ago , I had an episode of ventricular astolye and was treated with Noten -resulting in extremely low blood pressure problems. Cleared up itself for the last 3 years or so but is now back and more frequent. Should I be concerned or just wait for it to settle itself. Many thanks....Sonya

Hello,

Since you have been taking Noten, a beta blocker used to lower high blood pressure and treat arrhythmias, the reason you are experiencing recurrent episodes of low blood pressure. Low blood pressure can also be due to dehydration, exhaustion, excessive exercise, coronary artery disease, etc. You are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination done by your treating doctor so that it can be evaluated whether you need the medicines or it should be replaced by ones that suits you better.

You should get all routine tests, urinalysis done to detect the pathology causing low blood pressure. Get routine cardiac tests like EKG, echocardiography, stress test, X-ray, lipid function tests, etc., done. You will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
