What Causes Recurrent Pain In Stomach Despite Taking Tums?

Hi. My stomach hurts everyday (upper region close to the ribs) I usually take some tums and it goes away, but eventually it comes back later in the day, or the next day. Its bearable, but keeps occurring. This has been happening for close to 3 weeks now. What should i do ? Initially, i thought it was cramps, but it does not seem to feel the same as cramps.

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are having symptoms of recurrent pain in stomach despite taking Tums. There can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like irritable bowel syndrome, some medications like antidepressants, eating a lot of dairy products, acidity and lack of fibers in diet. Need not to worry. You should take diet rich in fibers and exercise daily and do not lie down immediately after having food. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon. You should get barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe you stool softeners as well. You should avoid intake of hot, sharp and spicy food substances. For now drink lot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals.
