What Causes Recurrent Rashes On The Body?

My husband has had hives break-out off and on since Feb. 1. He went into urgent care with a achy feeling and thought it might be the flu. They prescribed hydroxyzine, ketrorolac and gave him a steroid shot. They gave him dexpak to take after so many days( I think 7) if the hives had not improved. He had more hives after 7 days so he took the dexpak. After more occurrences he went to a regular MD and he prescribed 10 days of a medicine given for shingles (which he completed then within a few days), the hive have come back again 3 times in the last week - today being the worst break-out yet. He can not tie it to any given food, clothing, activity as it seems to be sporadic. COULD Ketorolac be the simulant that is causing the break-out? We are just at our whits-end trying to figure it out.

Hi,

Hives on your husband's body seem to be most probably due to an allergic reaction and in case if you have not changed any shampoo, soap or laundry etc., then it seems to be most probably due to any food or medication.

If it started after taking Ketorolac then it can be a cause, however, an allergy test is a must to rule out the exact cause.

I would suggest you consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc., can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

The allergist can advise oral anti-allergic as well as injectable steroids for relief.

As of now, you can take anti-allergics like Levocetirizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling. Do cool compresses. Application of Calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin.

You can also be instilled an Immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
