What Causes Recurring Bouts Of Cough?

I am a male, 66, relatively good health, never smoked, got a cough back in August. End of November still coughing. Seems to get worse as I walk, stairs, exercise. Took steroids by Dr. and did nothing. Family Dr. listened and said chest was clear in August and 2 weeks ago. Given a script for a chest x-ray have not gone. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern.

There are various causes to coughing. As your family dr. said that chest was clear, and that is getting worse while you walk, stairs or exercise, must be possibly due to any cardiovascular issue. I highly recommend to consult with a cardiologist, and run:
- EKG
- echocardiogram
- stress test
- chest X-ray.

If I was your caring doctor, I would recommend running upper endoscopy to rule out stomach problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
