What Causes Recurring Chills And Fever Post Treatment For Flu?
My boyfriend was diagnosed with the flu on saturday 1/16. He had chills, a fever ranging at 103 degrees and the doc prescribed him some meds to take. He had to follow a strict diet because he had also puked at the doctor s office and puked again later that night at home. The fever went down Sunday afternoon and the puking stopped, so did the chills. He felt a little queasy, and had a few headaches here and there. He had also developed a cough. He still felt pretty lethargic and was told he couldnt go back to work until the 18th. He had to call in sick today because he still wasnt not feeling completely ok. Then, around 5 his fever came back and shortly after, he started having chills again. Should he be worried? Is this normal? Should he go see the doc again? Could be meningitis or pnemonia?
I can understand your concern. However, you have failed to mention what the doctor you went to diagnosed or gave medications for in addition to what medicines he has taken. Fever with chills usually points to two pathologies. It could be either malaria or urinary tract infection.
If there is a history of possible mosquito bite, then he has more chances of being infected by malarial parasite. However, if he is feeling burning or pain sensation while urination and abdominal pain, it could be urinary tract infection. Sometimes, these symptoms remain absent in minor infection.
It is hard to reach a confirmed diagnosis without a blood test. You should go for Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Peripheral Smear (PS) and Urine Routine analysis to confirm a diagnosis. You can be prescribed medications according to the results.
Your friend needs to rest and have light but healthy diet. Drinking plenty of fluids may help. Acetaminophen 500 mg (Crocin) can be taken twice a day to have relief from symptoms till the results come.
I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish your friends better soon.
