What Causes Recurring Cold And Symptoms Of Flu?

For the past three years I have been getting really bad cold and flu symptoms to the point I am bed ridden. The bad symtoms last about two weeks and then I don t feel really back to normal for another three weeks. I currently have another cold, but it s not as bad as I usually get. When these flu symtoms come on it s mostly in my chest I have been to the Dr. twice while ill and she has said it is just going around . I have always been quite healthy in the past and I am at a loss as to why I continually get sick. I am also around my , granddaughters a lot ages 31/2 and 1 1/2. I am wondering If it is just my immune system breaking down as I age. My friends and family think it is very unusual for me to be sick as often as I am. I also take a flu shot every year.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear ,
This is Dr.S.Tomar from Healthcaremagic.com's medical team and I will be your medical advisor for this question.
Recurrent infections certainly shows that your immune system is getting weaker .I would suggest you to get checked for thyroid hormones and diabetes as both these conditions are known to weaken the immunity and predisposes to recurrent infections. Stress itself is known to weaken the immunity so practice some form of relaxation technique like yoga or meditation or deep breathing exercises and say good bye to stress.
Follow these tips to give a boost to your immunity:
1. include a multivitamin supplement everyday
2. say no to alcohol/smoking
3.maintain a healthy BMI of 22.
4.consume a healthy diet
5. say no to processed foods
6. sleep well atleast 7 hour a day
7.drink plenty of water a day
8.exercise regularly : its very important to boost the immunity.
9. maintain a good hygiene.
10 take your flu shot every year.

I wish you good health.
Best Regards,
DR.S.TOMAR
