What Causes Recurring Cold, Chest Tightness And Sore Throat?

I have had a recurring cold for about 3 months. Starts with sore throat, sneezing congestion, tightness in my chest, discolored thick mucus. I have been on 2 different antibiotics and still not better. Chest X-ray was clear. I don t know what to do next. I have never has asthma and don t smoke. I usually get bronchitis every fall but it has always gone away relatively quickly. What should I do next?

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring cold, chest tightness and sore throat which is because due to streptococcal infection leading to strep throat and it could be due to sinusitis/ tonsillitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take antibiotics like Amoxicillin for 5 days. Gargle with an antimicrobial mouthwash such as listerine. You should take steam inhalation with vaporizers. Avoid spicy, hot and sharp food substances. You should take anti-inflammatory painkiller Ibuprofen for relief from pain and inflammation. Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily. Do warm saline gargles. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. Visit ENT specialist once and get throat culture and sputum test done to find out exact cause and start treatment accordingly. Avoid cold carbonated beverages.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
