What Causes Recurring Extreme Pain In Lower Abdomen?

My daughter(age 41, 1 child, diabetic) had extreme pain in lower left abdomen, went to ER Saturday and they said it was a ruptured ovarian cyst. they did a CT scan, and sent her home with pain meds. The extreme pain lasted 4 hours and then lessened on its own. She has been better but still pain day and night since then. She went to her gynecologist on Tuesday and the nurse did a ultrasound. They did not see evidence of the ruptured cyst and said they did not know what it was. They sent her home again. The pain continued. She took a shower today as that usually makes her feel slightly better and the extreme pain came back again for 45 minutes and then lessened again. She is going to see her gynecologist again tomorrow for another ultrasound. I am concerned that they cannot determine what is causing the pain and could it be something other than a gyno issue? Her appetite is okay and she moved her bowels regularly. Thanks

Oncologist 's  Response
Hi,

Abdominal pain can be caused by many conditions. However, the main causes are an infection, abnormal growths, inflammation, obstruction (blockage), and intestinal disorders.

Cramps associated with menstruation are also a potential source of lower abdominal pain, but more commonly these are known to cause pelvic pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
