I have a 26 yr old white male (my son), that has severe headache that comes in waves from bad to worse. Also has severe lower back pain and chills. Temp is 98.8. Had him in er last Sunday night with same symptoms and could not find anything on catscan or blood and urine. Gave him adavan to calm down for scan. Then phenergan and an anti-inflammatory and sent home. He is a recovering heroin user. Monday will be 3 weeks since last used.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, i do care for your concern.
From the history said by you, the symptoms suggest more of withdrawal reactions due to opioids.
i would suggest to,
1) To consult psychiatrist, and get mid sedatives and other drugs to relieve these symptoms.
2) These symptoms are caused sympathetic reactions, and hence adding alpha blocking drugs will help a lot.
3) Adequate counselling is necessary to adhere with the treatment.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
thank you.
