Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
wife, age 79, good health, exercises regularly, pro-active about health care, has recurring headaches in evening. Has stents - takes blood pressure medicine - blood pressure well controlled - on low side. Any suggestions on what to do to target cause and eliminate this problem?
It can be drug related if she is using nitrates containing drugs after stenting or for her heart condition. Her medicine may needs to be reviewed and if echocardiogram shows good cardiac function or ejection fraction post stenting or join exertional chest pain is experienced, it may needs to be discontinued. Other causes like tension type headache or migraine may also be ruled out on detailed neurological examination. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief.
Wishing her a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
