What Causes Recurring High Fever, Cough, Chills And Diarrhea In A Child?

My 3 year old grandson has been running a high fever since last Monday, February 15 it s been as high as 104.6, it lowers when he takes ibuprofen, but goes right back up when it starts to wear off! Has a cough now and then, diarrehea 2 times daily x2 days, chills, tired! Has been seen by 2 doctors, strep test negative, ears clear, lungs clear, his sinus seems to be very plugged, very nasal sounding when he talks! He is a little might, poor eater! Very worried about him! Should he be swabbed for Influenza?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have recurring high fever, cough, chills and diarrhea in a child which seems to be due to bronchitis/upper respirtory tract infection. As you have low red blood cell count and inflammation markers are abnormal. Low immunity and now taking proper medicine can be responsible for recurring of symptoms . I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get it examined. You should go for throat swab test and X-ray chest as well start treatment after proper diagnosis. You should get pulmonary function test done to check level of infection. You should take steam inhalation. You should take antiallergic medication along with proper course of antibiotic along with Ibuprofen. The symptoms can also occur due to viral infection . Doctor may also prescribe vitamin supplement for boosting the immunity .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
