What Causes Recurring Loss Of Voice?

My fiancé lost her voice about 6 weeks ago. We don t have health insurance but I took her to a Med Quick and they examined her and prescribed some steroids and antibiotics. Her voice came back for a couple of days but soon was as bad as it was before. Her family has a history of Cancer and she has lost every member of her family to one form or another. I m worried that this may be more than Laryngitis. Her health insurance from the job she just started should become effective July 1st. Until then we can t afford for her to be seen. Any ideas of what I could look for until her insurance becomes effective?

Hi,

Noted the history about your fiance losing her voice which regained for a few days on visit to Med Quick wherein the Doctor prescribed her some antibiotic and steroid, but the voice became bad again, She has a history of caners in family hence worried but have no active insurance at the moment.
Since the voice improved on antibiotic and steroid albeit for few days it indicates towards laryngitis of some sort. Voice would not have improved if there would have cancer.
Secondly the history about smoking or exposure to any pollution, age of the patient and so on also is important.
Once you get insurance you can certainly get laryngoscopy to get a confirmed diagnosis and thus allow the proper medicines for getting a probable cure.
Additional management is in the form of voice rest, steam inhalation, avoidance of irritating factors.
Further management would be as per the exact cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
