What Causes Recurring Lymph Node Swelling And Pain On The Neck?

I m a 34 year old female. Average height and weight. I had strep throat about 3 months ago. Took antibiotics and it seemed to go away. For the past 3 weeks though a lymph node in the front left side of my neck will swell and get very painful on and off. Also the base of my tongue on that side hurts when I swallow. I can t even turn my head in the direction of the painful node when I have an attack. It will go away for a few days, but it always comes back.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The lymph nodes are due to the presence of an infection. I recommend using anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen three times a day for the pain.

Antibiotics may be needed if the symptoms continue. You should consult an ENT specialist for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
