What Causes Recurring Nose Bleeds And Break Out Of Hives?

Hello, I am a middle aged woman who s had more then several nose bleeds for the past year on and off. Typically I m not allergic to anything. Once in awhile I break out in hives, sometimes caused from the ruminants of a cold. Within the past year I ve been to the ENT specialist 3-4 times. I have another apt. this week. My concern is that cauterizing my right nostril only prevents it from bleeding for a short time. I just had this procedure down two weeks ago and still bleeding. There doesn t seem to be any polyps and I seem quite healthy, no problems. I take daily a baby aspirin, but when asked was info. it shouldn t be affecting the bleeding. I don t seem to have high blood pressure either. What would you recommend I do next. I am menopausal, but apparently that shouldn t have this type of effect either. I m perplexed at this time. Any suggestions please.??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history about nosebleeds in spite of cauterization, are on baby aspirin, no polyps, recurrent hives.
Sine there was cauterization and still a nosebleed means the cause can be something else too.
First of all you have to stop baby Aspirin and change over to another blood thinner after consulting your concerned Specialist.
Go for nasal endoscopy to see if there is any other cause of bleeding.
CT scan of nose and sinuses to find any other cause like mass, cancer or so.
Once a proper cause is found the treatment will be certain.
If the bleeding still does not stop, the main artery supplying the area can be cauterized.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
