What Causes Recurring Pain Across Upper Chest And Arms?

For the last two months or so, I have been having intermittent pain across my entire upper chest as well as the top half of both arms. About two weeks after this started, I went to see my cardiologist who gave me an EKG, and sent me to the Cardiovascular Center of So.CA where I underwent further tests. Luckily the findings were that there was nothing wrong with my heart that they could find. I had undergone and even more in-depth test at this same center 3.5 years earlier after getting shortness of breath after coming up a flight of stairs. The results were that I had a beautiful heart. I also saw a lung specialist about five months ago, and my lungs were found to be in good shape. I have never smoked, I drink coffee in moderation as well as a class of wine two or three times a week with dinner usually. I am a slim recently turned 67 year old female who walks at least a mile every day, I do stretching every morning for about 15 to 20 minutes. I am mentally strong and spend a lot of time research and writing, and promoting my small charitable foundation from my home office. Could these pains be a result of my recent taking of Folic Acid (1 mg) per day prescribed by my general practitioner? I take daily one tablet of amLOIPine-Benazepril 5-20MG (generic for Lotrel) as well as one tablet daily of Triamterene-HCTZ 37.5-25 MG CP and one low dose 81 mg aspirin. I am very concerned about this recurring pain and do not understand what the problem could be. I take my health very serious. I am not overweight at all and eat fairly health. I do have a problem sleeping however, Thanks for answering my questions. Marine N. Stewart

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have recurring pain across upper chest and arms . Well as your have lifted very heavy weight , sometimes this may lead to spasm of trapezius or injury to related ligament due tilting of heavy load on one side . poor posture is also one of the reason for suck kind of pain . the probable reasons for chest pain are compressed fracture , disc problem or nerve impingement due to heavy weight . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination and rule out causes related to heart . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , calcium supplement , anti inflammatory or recommend you for stretching and physical therapy . If your are experiencing dizziness n weakness or shortness of breath then there is a possibility of heart disease , In that case refer to cardiologist .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
