What Causes Recurring Proteus Mirabilis In Vagina?

I was diagnosed with Proteus Mirabilis in my vagina which had caused a discharge. My doctor gave me an antibiotic which took care of it but now I think it s back since I m having a discharge again. The doctor said it would probably return. Also my doctor said that it was rare to have proteus mirabilis in the vagina. I m really concerned after reading what can happen if this continues. Also how in the world would a 72 year old woman get this? I live alone at home and haven t had sexual relations in years. I ve had several surgeries over the last few years including surgery for a perforated colon. Could this bacterium have migrated into my vagina somehow when my colon perforated since it lives in the intestines?
