What Causes Recurring Pulsating Sensations In Lower Legs?

I have pulsing sensatiion, almost like a twitch in my lower legs. It seems worse at night or rest. I can sleep. Sometimes I can feel the pulse on the outside with my hand. It seems to move around on my calves. No set pattern. I am a healthly 63 year old female, fit, good diet, no health problems. It appears to be getting more frequent. especially in the past few days. I am no no meds. I have had a problem with cramps in my arches but that appears to be resolves with massage and orthotics. I did look up formication but I have no pain, just this weird feeling not a crawling feeling just a spontaneous pulsing. Could it be fasiculations?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

These could be fasiculations of muscles as the sites are changing and there is no set pattern although you may sometimes feel this to be due to pulsation. Since there are no other health issues I would advise you to put the palm of the part affected to feel. You can surely have the understanding whether these are muscular tics / fasiculations as you would feel the muscles, wide and large area. Pulsations would be limited to a very small part and it is usually regular and same pattern.

Once this is confirmed, consult your doctor for examination and for detailed history and investigations as may be required. Get the serum electrolytes, calcium done. Take electrolyte solutions. Avoid stress and anxiety. Further management as per the clinical evaluation and investigations.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
