What Causes Recurring Red Bruise On Buttocks?

What are possible causes of Red bruises on buttocks that return every now and then? This has occurred over the past year. They appear on one side of my buttocks and turn from red to dark in about 6 days. They do not hurt, but may return two months later. Do I need to see an allergist? My doctor said it could be an allergic reaction to almost anything. No prescriptions, no recommendations made.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

These red bruises over the bottocks could be petechial haemmohargees or some allergic reaction which could occur due to blood extravasation from the subcutaneous capillaries but the visual inspection at the site of bruise will confirm the diagnosis.

You should do some blood works like blood counts,ESR, prothombin time and bleeding time.

If these bruises get subsided by themselves then there is no need of any definitive treatment. However you can take symptommatic treatment like antihistamines available over the counter.

Consult dermatologist or allergic specialist for further advice.

Regards,
