What Causes Recurring Sharp Abdominal Pain In A Child?
Hi, My 9 year old son has been having sharp pains right above his belly button. The pain appears 1-2x a day and lasts a very short time ( around a minute) . He states that it is almost like he needs to burp and by trying to burp helps. At times the pain is so severe that he is doubled over and can t speak. I am thinking that it could possibly be an allergy to gluten or dairy, but he does not have any bloating or gas.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of recurring sharp abdominal pain which seems to be due to disturbance of electrolytic balance of body. Need not to worry. It could be due to food intolerance , food allergy , bacterial or viral infection , parasitic infection or inflammatory bowel disease. You should give oral rehydrating solution to maintain hydration status of child. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like omeprazole along with loperamide. You should eat light and non spicy food. Avoid intake of outside food. You should eat fresh fruits and vegetables and eat fruits like banana. Take plenty of fluids and diet rich in multivitamins as well.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
