What Causes Recurring Sharp, Shooting Pain In Right Breast?

I am a 18 year old female with sharp, shooting, nearly unbearable breast pain. It always occurs in my right breast. It has occurred off and on over the past few years but over the past 4 or 5 days it has become extremely painful and more frequent. I am on the generic version of the Ortho Evra birth control patch, but other side effects from it went away about a month ago. I am a college student hours away from home and cannot call for help at this hour.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have recurring sharp, shooting pain in right breast. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like cyclical breast like changes of the levels of the two hormones , progesterone and estrogen , injury to the breast , wrong innerwear , costochondritis , tumors or breast cancer, but very uncommon or taking contraceptive pills . I would suggest you to wear loose cloths , apply warm compresses thrice a day and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . If condition persists then consult gynecologist for proper examination . Doctor may check physically for tenderness and consistency or for any knot . Doctor may order check x-ray or mammogram . Doctor may prescribe hormonal therapy along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for ribs or muscle problem .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
