Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Sharp, Stabbing Pain In Right Wrist Radiating To Forearm?
Woke up a few weeks ago with excruciating pain in my right hand / wrist. I thought that perhaps I slept on it as I have before, but this seemed different. When swiveling my hand, such as turning a key in a lock, there s a sharp, stabbing pain. Also, at times the pain shoots up my forearm. I ve also noticed a certain pop when moving my thumb a certain way & the protruding wrist bone seems enlarged compared to my left wrist bone. Considered having an X-Ray done to identify the problem...it s becoming more difficult to perform routine tasks. Please advise, thanks! L
It would be good to have an Xray of the hand, wrist, and elbow (though no discomfort here, should look at the additional joint), especially if you are having increased difficulty.
Stabbing severe intermittent pain is sometimes related to nerves supplying the particular area.
This is called neuropathy and there are a number of different causes. In addition to X-rays, your doctor may need other tests to be performed to pinpoint the cause.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
