What Causes Recurring Sore Lump On The Bottom Lip?

For nearly two months, my bottom lip gets very sore and I can feel a bump under the skin. After a couple of days, it turns into a blister type sore. It clears up in a few days just to do it again. The longest it s gone without breaking out again has been this past one week after taking an antibiotic for a bladder infection. I thought it was finally over, but today it got the painful bumps again, so I m expecting it to break out and blister again. What could be causing this?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring sore lump on the bottom lip which seems to be due to recurring aphthous ulcer . There can be many reasons for recurring aphthous ulcer like stress , trauma (like repeated trauma from any dental appliance ) or allergy to certain food like nuts and sea food or some medicines. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to to maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing your teeth twice a day , do chlorhexidine mouthwash rinses twice a day and do warm salt water rinses several times a day . Try to avoid food or drug if you think your are allergic to. If condition still persist or reoccur then consult oral pathologist for proper diagnosis and to rule out conditions like like stomatitis or behcet's disease. Doctor may prescribe corticosteroid drug like dexamethasone or clobetasol , if they do not work effectively the prednisone will be the option.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
