What Causes Recurring Swelling And Pain In Foot With History Of Gout?

I have had foot problems with gout before. Well I at 54 yrs old played soccer w/kids one day and the next day my foot was tender with pain. Steroids (prednisone) made the swelling go down. Now everytime I use my feet to kick anything they swell up w/ pain...I wonder is it the gout or maybe nerve problems from past gout damage? I did get more steroids but it works but the pain/swelling then comes back in a couple days.

Gout is a disorder where uric acid accumulates in the joints and causes inflammation due to formation of sodium irate crystals. Steroids will only reduce local inflammation. Allopurinol is the drug of choice to treat gout.
Also you need to avoid non-veg foods and alcohol as it is known to increase uric acid in the body and worsen gout.
Drink pleanty of fluids which will help eliminate excess uric acid through urine.
