What Causes Recurring Vaginal Itching?

i had sex back in october, and about a month or two later i started to feel a irriatating feeling. my cousin thought it was a yeast infection so we used monastat. i felt a relief for a while, but now every so often i feel a slight itchy irritating feeling. but when i am on my period i dont feel it
