What Causes Recurring Vomiting And Diarrhea?

Hello, I have frequent diarrhea or loose stools and I feel like my metabolism is very slow. I eat fairly healthy and am exercising and weight loss for me is very slow. I am currently 80 pounds over my weight when I was in highschool and I m only 5 foot 2. I would like to lose at least 60 pounds and am wondering if something going on with my digestive system is contributing to my weight. I am also a 35 year old female and I realize it could also be my age that is slowing my weight loss down. If you can give me any insight into possibilities that might be happening... I d appreciate it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from recurrent vomiting and diarrhea. You are overweight and are unable to lose weight effectively. You are suggested to avoid stress, avoid taking food that is greasy, fatty, high in salt or sugar. Prefer to take bland food, consider BRAT (banana, rice, apple-sauce, toast) diet. Avoid taking full fat dairy products, caffeine, wash your hands with soap and water. Take adequate rest.

Such symptoms may be caused by acute gastroenteritis, viral gastroenteritis, liver dysfunction, food poisoning, traveler's diarrhea, over-eating or over drinking, traveler's diarrhea, etc. To control diarrhea you can take bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) or loperamide (Imodium). To control diarrhea take antiemetic medicines.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get CBC, urinalysis, liver function tests and all required tests and investigations done to detect the pathology causing you symptoms. You will be accordingly treated. Stay away from addictions if any. Avoid sedentary lifestyle, do regular walking in the morning & evening, do regular exercises.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
