What Causes Red And Dry Lump On The Side Of Neck?

My 2 year old as a lump on the side of his neck. It is pea sized and has been there at least 6 months. It is visible, too. I am able to move it around. About a week ago, it started to turn red. It appears worse as the week has progressed. It is now red and dry on the skin's surface. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
A lump on the side of neck of a 2 year old can be due to various reasons.
The most common being lymph node enlargement, or soft tissue lesion.
Redness over the skin can be due to infection/ inflammation of the lesion.
You need to consult your doctor for clinical assessment, relevant investigation like ultrasound of the neck and aspiration of the lesion.
Aspiration of the lesion will sample the cells which are spread on slide and stained with appropriate stain.
The cells will be examined under the microscope.
This investigation will determine the origin of the lesion and the character of the lesion.
Further management will be decided by the investigation results.

Thanks and take care
