What Causes Red And Itchy Patches On The Skin?

I had a 24 hour monitor on and after removing the leads had developed red, itchy patches on my skin. This happened last year when I had the monitor the first time. But this time, I also have a large lump on my upper chest with the irritated skin. I m assuming it will go away. Do you know if the lump is of any concern? Thank you. Sue

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The red itchy bump following EKG leads application, indicate that it is of allergy-induced skin eruption via the action of mast cells and eosinophils.
* Additional care with antihistamine, local care with antiseptic soap, avoidance of secondary bacterial infection, supportive antibiotics and steroid creams work up best for faster recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
