What Causes Red And Purple Colored Vein On The Top Of Mouth?

I have a red/purple vein on top of the right side of my mouth above my teeth on my gums (very high up) and it has been hurting for about 3 days now. it's like a aching pain. can you email me and I can send a picture?? I just want to make sure it isn't anything serious without going to the dentist bc I'm terrified. ps I also poked my self up there with a straw

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like an inflamed vein or there is a possibility that you have deep infection in the gums causing inflammation and swelling of the vein..

So my advise is to apply numbing gel containing Lidocaine over it..
You can also take anti inflammatory painkillers like Advil or Aleve.
Do cool compresses over it or hold cool water in mouth and spit off in a few seconds..

In case if it does not improve in a week consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
