What Causes Red And Swollen Nipples With Mild Fever In A Child?
Hi I just put my 7 year old boy to bed, when I noticed he is warm and he complain about pain on his chest. When I checked his chest his nipple is red and swollen, his temp. was 37.9. Should I be worried about it? Will it go away or should I take him to see Doc. as soon as possible?
I think your child has mastitis according these symptoms. Mastitis is a condition that causes an inflammation in the breast tissue usually in female but is rare in male. In the case of adolescent boys and men, the route of infection is by skin bacteria entering the nipples through cracks in the skin. So, your child needs to take maybe antibiotics but first you have to talk as soon as possible with an Infectious Disease Specialist and to do a physical examination.
I hope my answer help you. Let me know if I can assist you further. I wish you quick recovery.
Regards, Dr. Monika Dede
