What Causes Red Blood In Stools When Diagnosed With Low Hemoglobin?

My son has off and on had red blood in his feces over the last two months and now is experiencing tenderness in his side and swollen bumps. His dr tested his blood and found low hemoglobin. He has an appt on July 10. I think he should not wait and go to the hospital emergency room. What is your opinion is it ok to wait?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, This is Dr. Manreet..Your son might be suffering from some intestinal infection (colitis)or peptic ulcer as there is blood in stools and low haemoglobin indicates that there is some gastro intestinal bleed.I would suggest to go to the hospital and get your son investigated as to what is causing the bleed.
