What Causes Red Blotches On The Forearm, Wrist, Elbow And Armpit?

I have groupings of red blotches( red bump that then looks red & swollen like a hive or reaction to a bite but aren t bites or hives) on skin- started with 2 spots on forearm( which now is a grouping of 7), then 4 spots on back of forearm. Now getting single spots at wrist, elbow and near axilla. Feel prickly with clothing and almost a bruised sensation to touch. A slight itch if I rub my finger over the bumps. Any thoughts? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This looks typically a skin allergy, very likely urticaria. Causes are many like allergen, drugs, infection, etc. So try to if you find any cause though many times cause is not known.

If you are otherwise fine, I would suggest applying some emollients like petroleum jelly and use antihistamines like Zyrtec for a few days. Wait if things getting better. Stop any drug if you suspect that as the cause. However, urgently see you Dr if it worsens or you feel sick.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
