What Causes Red Bumps In The Genital Area After Receiving Depo Shots?
Hi! I switched to the birth control shot (Depo) from the patch almost 3 months ago. The first two months on the shot, I didn t even have a period. Now (the third month), I ve been on it for almost 3 weeks. Just this week, I have noticed a considerable amount of red bumps, almost pimple-like, on my genital area. I ve heard horror stories about TSS and I m terrified that that s what it is. Could that be it?
TSS (toxic shock syndrome) happens when women use tampons during their periods so it is unlikely for it to be related to the Depo shot. Also, TSS does not cause pimples but blisters and skin breaking which does not seem to be the case with you.
I would say that very likely the pimples are folliculitis (inflammation of the hair root) in the area and you will just need to not poke them, you can apply an antibacterial cream (mupirocin) and if no improvement you will need to see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
