What Causes Red Colored Vein Where The IV Fluid Has Administrated?

I had surgery almost 3 weeks ago and had an IV for 2 days an then it was removed, it was painful before it was removed an the pain has subsided a bit but the area the IV was in is red an about an inch and a half of the vein or area of the vein is red. Not xure if this maybe something I need to have looked at.

This is probably just small superficial thrombophlebitis and you need to apply cold compresses and take nonsteroid painkillers for a start. If there wont be improvement, you should have systemic antibiotics to treat infection.
