What Causes Red Hard Lump At The Injection Site?

I take Bydureon injections, and have a very red hard lump at the injection site about 1 inch in diameter. . It has been two weeks since i took this shot . The lump shows no signs of dissapating. Called my endocrinologist and he started me on Cephalexin yesterday. Can you give me some advice as to what to do? Could this be an abscess abd require surgery. Very concerned.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a red hard lump at the site of injection can occur due to pricking of the blood vessel with the injection needle leading to spillage of blood into the soft tissues and formation of hematoma..

Due to inflammation there can be proliferation of the fibrous tissues and the hematoma can get localized and encapsulated leading to formation of a small lump..

There can be abscess formation if the lump seems to have filled with pus and has a white centre..

As per your explanation it seems that you have an inflammatory lesion and not an abscess..
You should do alternate warm and cold compresses over the lump for faster healing..
Apply thrombophob gel containing heparin and will help in faster dissolution of clot..
In case of pain you can take antiinflammatory pain killer like Ibuprofen..

Hope your query is solved..
