What Causes Red Lines On Back And Thigh After Having ACL Reconstruction Surgery?

Wow. This is great! We recently noticed little red lines on our 16 year old son s bottom that also seem to be spreading to his back thigh. Two weeks ago he had ACL reconstruction surgery along with meniscus repair. My husband noticed these marks today. I actually noticed them a few months ago...a few. They look like stretch marks. Should we worry? Anything we can do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Red lines on back and thigh after having ACL reconstruction surgery can be related to:
- Possible side effect of certain drugs as antibiotics (ampicillin or else frequently prescribed for prevention of gram positive bacterial infection); anti-inflammatory medicines as diclofenac or others. But the narration also mentions that the rash was observed few months ago, that means (if I am correct) the issue is of pre-operative period (surgery before 2 weeks) can be related to immune response to certain pathology, allergic issues manifesting as skin eruptions. So, I would request you to clarify further details of duration of rash during next follow up chat for better discussion.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
