What Causes Red Mucus After Taking Cherry NyQuil?

I have a head cold (URI)-- last nite before bed..I took a dose of Cherry Nyquil- (with red dye) next morning upon awakening....I hacked up some phlegm..& it had red in it--!! At first I was alarmed..cause i thought it might be blood--After I swished my mouth w water,,,it Cleared up ..& not happened any more Could this have been the RED DYE...in the Nyquil...?? I called my wife to the sink..she said it was the NYQUIL--it was bright red..NOT dark--! I am a non smoker--in middle of bad head cold (Sneezing--watery eyes--now a dry,,hacking cough---) I will see me ENT Dr---tomorrow..Your thoughts..??? EVER hear of RED cough/cold liquid causing this..?

I really appreciate your concern, allergic condition is very likely and may not need any treatment for this but this could be self-limiting and no need to worry about this and no need to be very conscious.
