Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Rashes All Over The Body While Suffering From High Fever?
My ten year old daughter has had intermittent fever for five days, at times as high as 104. a walk in clinic prescribed amoxycillin and three doses later she developed a skin rash, small red non-itchy spots all over her body. The clinic prescribed the meds even though the quick test showed negative for strep; they sent out a culture which takes a couple of days and went ahead and treated her for strep. We took her to the ER today, and they told us to discontinue the antibiotic. The rash is getting worse and she has a temp of 102.3.
The rash can be an allergic reaction to amoxicillin. On the other hand, because her fever is still lasting for more than 5 days, a bacterial cause of it can be assumed. There are other bacteria that can cause high fever in children other than strep. I would advise you to talk with your doctor and see the need for another antibiotic that is not a penicillin one. Azithromycin or clindamycin are other possible alternatives.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
