Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Rashes On Across The Chest After Taking Zonisamide?
OK. I took my first zonisamide 100 mg capsule at about 2:30 this afternoon. By 7 p.m. I have a very nice very pink, not yet tomato red, rash* across my chest from shoulder to shoulder and from my neck down to my solar plexus. * The rash is fairly solid. The zonisamide is being tried to replace divalproex (for seizures) which has contributed to some behavioral problems which are pretty much under control. And I got a good - and increasing - rash a couple of weeks ago to lamotrigine. I am at 5oo mg/day of the divalproex.
From the description of your symptoms I can deduct that it can be an allergic reaction. This allergic reaction can be caused by Zonisamide. My advice is to consult your treating doctor as soon as possible because your allergic reaction is generalized or systemic and it can be dangerous for you.
You may need to change the treatment for seizures and maybe to take an antihystemic drug to ease the symptoms of allergy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo,
Endocrinologist
