What Causes Red Rashes On The Legs After Taking Nitrofurantoin?

My daughter is 22 and went to Patient First and had a UTI infection. They gave her 100mg Nitrofuranloin. She just noticed an hour ago that she had red hives on her leg and her back has bumps on it. It doesn t itch. I gave her benadryl..she does not have any other symptoms. Dies this sound like an allergic reaction?

Hello,

Yes, it is an allergic reaction. If there is an improvement with Benadryl then continue it for 3 days. Add tab Ranitidine two times. And request doctor to change Nitrofurantoin with some another antibiotic. Maybe Moxifloxacin or Cefixime.
