What Causes Red Rashes On The Toes While On Cefuroxime?

I have been taking Cefuroxime 250 mg since Tuesday, 2 per day for a sinus infection About ten minutes after I take it a red rash appears on both feet on top of toes and instep toward the inside of foot and underneath. Is this a reaction from this drug?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

It is due to Cefuroxime induced skin allergic reaction.
Cefuroxime is a cephalosporin antibiotic which is commonly prescribed to treat infections with susceptible bacteria.

Based on the given history you seem to have developed skin allergic reaction apparently caused by taking Cefuroxime.

I advise you to stop taking this medication and consult your treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer antibiotic to eradicate the sinus infection. Further, you should avoid taking cephalosporins and penicillins.
Hope this will help.
