Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Red Swollen Circles Around Eyes And A Rash Around Mouth?
A few weeks ago I started getting puffy red circles around my eyes. The puffiness increased to where my eyes were almost swollen shut. They etched a great deal. I also have a rash around my mouth. I went to my primary care doctor, who thought it was some allergy as there were no other rashes of any kind anywhere else on my body. The only thing I can think of is that I started taking Dexilant---a time released med for GERD. I stopped taking the meds and applied Hydrocortisone--a prescription from my doctor. The swelling has gone away and much of the rash around my mouth, but my eyes still continue to have big red circles around them. I also just had laprascopy for my GERD. The surgery was successful, but the rash continues! What to do?
Your condition appears to be atopic dermatitis or contact dermatitis to me. It can be resolved easily with the use of emollients on a long term basis and ointments containing mild steroids like hydrocortisone for a short term as and when the condition flares up. Also, please include lots of vitamin rich food in your diet and try to find out if there is some allergen which is causing some allergy in these areas.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
