What Causes Red Tongue And Red Chapped Lips In A Pneumonia Recoverer?
My mom is getting over pneumonia and has just finished a zpak and the amox-clav prescribed to her. Her cough has lessened but still making her extremely tired. She has a very red tongue and her lips are really red and chapped. What can we do? Also, she has stomach burning several times a day which she takes Alka-Seltzer for and that seems to help. Any suggestions?
Hi. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history. Noted history of your mother getting pneumonia, finishing Z-pack and Amoxy-clav but getting tired, red tongue and lips are red and chapped and burning in stomach. The most probable reason for these problems looks to be multivitamin deficiency due to altered intestinal bacterial flora and acidity . I would advise her to take additional medicines- PPI like Omeprazole, antacid gel to be continued and Pre and probiotics to restore the intestinal bacterial flora.l Get a review X-ray of the chest done to see the effects of the medicines she has taken and to continue the antibiotics and supportive medicines till she is cures. Apply anti-fungal cream in the oral cavity to avoid development of thrush
