Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Today i felt something on my tongue bothering me and I looked in the mirror and realized it was a purple-redish bump on the right side of my tongue.Although it doesn't hurt, its annoyning when it gets bigger and makes talking and eating difficult. Ive had this happen to me quite a couple of times but because this is just the beggining I want to know how I can prevent it from getting worse and what it is.
As per your complain it seems that it is a hematoma formed due to injury to the tongue and as you told there are recurrent episodes it shows that you must have some sharp edges on the teeth or tongue biting habit leading to injury to the tongue causing rupture of minor blood vessels of the tongue, spillage of blood in the soft tissue and thus formation of hematoma.
In case it is a hematoma it will resolve gradually on its own.
As you have recurrent episodes of this problem you should consult an oral pathologist and get evaluated and treatment can be planned as per diagnosis.
Hope your query is solved..
