What Causes Redness And Burning Sensation On Scalp After Using Hair Color?

My scalp is very red and burns severely when Im in the sun. I have no dandruff and scalp does not itch. I am having hair loss as well. I use hair color monthly and this causes condition to elevate for a period of time. What is your diagnosis and treatment?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Redness and burning sensation of the scalp after using hair color is primarily due to allergic reaction due to some of the ingredients in it.
It will generally subside on its own.
However, wash thoroughly your hairs with cold water using mild antiseptic shampoo and dry with clean towel.
Take Tablet. Levocetrizine 10mg once a day for 3 days.
Use shampoo containing selenium and zinc once in 3 days for rest of the period.
In case you use the color again and these symptoms recurs, you need to change the hair color.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
