What Causes Redness And Itchiness In Upper Arms And Knees?
I have had a redness to my upper arms and knees with a very bad itch. The more I scratch the more it hurts and the more I seem to hurt. If I run hot water over my hands when they hurt it takes the itching and butning away. What could it possibly be from, my PCP told me to wear long sleeves and don t go into the cold section of the store. I am very frustrated, can you help?
Very likely you are experiencing symptoms that are due to eczema. This is local skin irritation, mostly due to an increased tendency of the body to react to outside agents or sometimes it just happens without any noticeable trigger.
You will need to use local steroid cream such as betamethasone on the red areas. Meanwhile, try to use vaseline ointment locally in the midday and every time you wash your hands to keep them moisturized and prevent dry skin.
if no improvement of your symptoms in 4-5 days or any worsening, you will need to see your doctor.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
